Typicaly $ 250,000 per sheet is a good rough estimate. Some clubs have multiple levels in the "warm room" . Many clubs have separate dinning facilities. Most clubs have a bar.

It is traditional to socialize with your opposition after the game. To facilitate that there usually is an 8 person round table behind each sheet.

To make ice you need a refrigeration system and a level space to "freeze the water". There are roll up ice mats, pre fab buildings which can be used to lower the cost of construction. Geo-thermal systems can lower operating cost, however they increase Capital investment.

What's Curling

Curling is a team game usung 42# stones which are slid 140 feet on an ice surface to a 12 ft circle. The winner , after all 16 stones are "delivered" is the team whos stone is closest to the center of that 12' circle. Only one team scores in an end.

There are 4 players on each team who deliver 2 stones apeace (alternating with the opposition) . When not delivering 2 team members go down the ice with the stone and sweep , when necessary(which reduces the friction) in order to improve the accuracy of the shot.

During the game the captian or "skip" stands in the target circle and calls the game. The skip provides the team stratagy, the aiming point for each shot and helps direct the sweepers. Communication during each shot is critical and information is provided by all 4 curlers.

Adirondack Curling

We are located in the Lake Placid Area. Curlers all, who are intrested in having a dedidated curling ice surface for our sole use. Currently we share with Figure skaters and Hockey players and have to store our stones off ice.

Due to the unlevelness of non-curling ice we learn to read the dips and elevations, much like a golfer does when putting. Any way we'd love to curl on "real curling Ice" .
